John Muir on the summit of Half Dome in 1875:
"perfectly glorious... A massive cloud of pure pearl luster... was arched across the valley from wall to wall... My shadow, clearly outlined, about half a mile long, lay upon this glorious white surface with startling effect. I walked back and forth, waved my arms and struck all sorts of attitudes, to see every slightest movement enormously exaggerated."

this is really really cool.
There's so much stuff like this everywhere if you know to look for it. Another good one is the shadow of the earth on the sky just after the sun has set.
